Quote of the Week, Perhaps a Bit Longer

"The biological community is a vast and complicated system for sharing and distributing the energy of the sun among a diversity of life forms." ~Martson Bates

Welcome the Wild Wild Wind

The last few days have been windy, windy, windy. Typically, I love the wind, it pushes the pollution out of the valleys and gives a sense of rejuvenation to the air. Once the wind settles the air appears crisp and clean and it's peace and stillness is something to relish. I also love how the wind feels blowing through my hair and it always gives me the urge to spread my wings (arms) out wide and fly.

This picture does not do justice to how windy it was that day... what a great day

With that said, the wind can also be very wearing. Working outside, as we have been lately, it takes a lot out of you and can make many of our ranch jobs somewhat difficult. Here in the desert it can be down right frustrating, getting dust in just about every orifice you can think of. On Sunday we helped Dan's brother Leonard brand calves. The wind was so bad that at times I couldn't see more than five feet in front of me, Dan was only three feet away and I could barely see him. It was like a whiteout only it was a dustout. My eyes were sore with dust in them for the next day and a half, I was blowing black, dusty snot from my nose for quite awhile afterward too. Below is a great picture of my dusty face that Dan took right after the branding.

You look like a painted lady! :) That was a crazy day, what has been strange is how it is windy one day, calm the next, windy the next . . . crazy Nevada.
