Yesterday was such a fun and amazing day. Dan and I went to Bog Hot, a natural hot spring not too far from the Ranch. We ended up not getting in because the nice pool was warm, not hot and the weather was windy and cold, getting out would have been miserable so we decided to leave it for a warmer day. On the way to the hot springs we saw two immature Bald Eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus). They were right along side the road. We were about ten feet away from them when they decided to fly off. Eagles are magnificent, it really is amazing how big and powerful they are. Watching them fly off was very cool, "so much beauty it could make you cry."
At the springs my favorite flowers were blooming, monkey flowers (Mimulus guttatus). Monkey flowers are in the figwart family (Scrophulariaceae) and can be found in moist areas along stream banks and ponds. They have beautiful, yellow, bilaterally symmetrical flowers with tiny red spots near their center openings. The wonderful little monkey flower even has medicinal properties, it has been used as an anti-depressant (it lifts my spirits just seeing it)and for pain relief. I love this little flower, so it will be hard for me to harvest, but I am excited to start working with it and can't wait to learn more about it's healing properties. Yay monkey flowers!!!

Do you remember the bald eagle that was perched on a tree behind the house in Carriage Square? It was breath taking and so huge. I remember how little birds came by and tried to attack it. What a wonderful experience you are having! Love, Mom & Ozzie
I do remember that, it was fun to see such a cool bird right out of the your bedroom window.
