On Wednesday--Veterans Day-- Dan went out toward Toll Road in South Reno to explore and hike around a bit. Lo and behold, he found a new, cool hiking trail. The following Saturday we took the kids and went for a hike on this exciting, new to us trail. The canyon was beautiful. The trail was nice too, in that it wasn't too steep or too difficult to walk on. It went along a dry creek bed for most of the way, so at times there were some loose, rolly rocks we had to watch our ankles on, but over all it was smooth walking.
Low in the canyon there were some yellow leaves still clinging to the willows and cottonwoods as if holding on to fall with all their might, but as we climbed, the yellow was lost to naked trunks and limbs. Along the trail there were many junipers and pinyon pines and as we hiked, we found a bunch of spent pine nut shells--next year I'll have to come back in September or October to collect pine nuts, mmmmmm I love pine nuts. Also, the junipers were bearing their fruits in full force, they were covered in beautiful blue-gray berries.
