Snow has arrived in the valley

Sorry it's been so long since I last posted, I have been caught up in the "real world" or in the not so real "real world" ( see my sister's post "The Real World"). I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to find a job. I have been going on interview after interview, with several positions requiring me to come in for two or more interviews, it becomes quite trying after awhile. They tend to say I'm a "close second," which nice, yet at the same time, really sucks--oh well, what can you do.

It started snowing Sunday night and I guess it didn't stop. When I woke up Monday morning there was about 7 inches of snow on the ground. It was nerve wracking because I needed to take Bodie to the place where she's staying while we are in Spain. The T.V. reports said the roads were terrible and showed wrecks all around town. It also turned out that both Washoe and Carson school districts where closed. It was actually good that the Carson schools were closed because mom was able to help me get Bodie to the kennel. She has really good snow and mud tires on her car--the Honda has fairly bald tires, which aren't snow and mud tires and our chains broke the last time we used them. So, needless to say, it would have been difficult for me to get her to where she needed to go with the Honda. Luckily, everything worked out fine, we took mom's car and just drove really slow and carefully, it ended up not being too bad.

Other than all the stress it caused, it was great to see all the snow. We don't get much snow here in the Truckee Meadows, a couple inches a couple times a year is about all we typically get. Every once in awhile though we'll get a foot or more. Mom and I took the dogs out to play in the snow, but they weren't very interested in it, they didn't seem to like it much at all, especially the little dogs.

Since the dogs didn't enjoy being out in the snow, I went out for a walk by myself. It was sweet, The snow caused a bunch of birds to land in our little pond. The usual occupants for this time of year are Mallards, American Coots, Canadian Geese, Gadwalls and American Wigens. Today I saw all of the above plus Common Goldeneyes, Hooded Mergansers, Northern Shovelers, Snow Geese (at least I think they were, they could have been Ross's Geese, but since I had never seen either one in real life before it was hard for me to tell--you can tell them apart by their size and the snows have a black "grin-patch"). Also, I saw a Kingfisher, my favorite, and I always knew there were at least two Night Herons who lived around the pond, but yesterday I saw four hanging out on the edge of the pond, woohoo--super sweet!!!!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to post again for awhile because, fortunately, I'll be in Spain until the twentieth of December. I can't believe I'm going overseas twice within four months, it's sooooooooo exciting. I'm so glad I have finally started my adventure as a world traveler. I wonder what our next adventure will be. I can't wait to find out, but for now I'm just going to enjoy Spain and I'll let you know all about it once I'm back. Another great thing about Spain is Erin (my sister) is going to fly over from Romania and visit us for several days while we're there, which makes it extra exciting. Yippy!!!!!
