Daddy, Daddy, Daddy Long Legs!!!!

So, I have recently moved back up to Leonard Creek Ranch, which is very exciting and will hopefully get me back to blogging in a more predictable manner. I'm living in the little ranch house across the drive from Daniel's mother's house. The house is a bit run down and there are some cobwebs here and there, but overall it's cozy and quaint.

One of my favorite things about the house is a daddy long leg spider, also known as a cellar spider, who lives in the corner of my bathtub/shower. I tend to forget that he is there and I turn on the shower, let the water heat up a bit and I step in. I turn around and there he is in the lower corner of my tub. I always think, oh shit, I should turn off the water and escort him somewhere safe, but then he starts to climb his web to the safety of the ceiling. I watch him as he makes his way out of the danger zone and into the safety of the upper corner. He typically has a couple of small falls on his way to the top, but he always makes it and he makes it fairly fast. He's one tough spider.

Once my shower is over I think, maybe I should move him so he doesn't have to go through that grueling climb everyday. Then I think, maybe it's not too grueling, plus he now knows I'm here and that I take regular showers, if he fears for his life he would move, right? Anyway, I enjoy his company and he eats, or at least traps, many of the peskier insects, so I don't mind having him near by. And don't worry, if it ever seems like he's having too much trouble with the climb to safety, I'll move him to a quieter, less exciting location. I wonder though, in the world of spider, is it more disrupting to have to climb to safety everyday or rebuild and restructure your home/territory???? Hmmmmmmm, if any entomologists out there know the answer to that one, let me know.

Cool baby, I love that you don't run screaming at the sight of a cute spider!

I never cared much for spiders but I always liked Daddy Long Legs. I guess it was because they moved slow and seemed harmless. Nice he has found such a caring home. Love, Mom

my apartment is becoming over run by daddy long legs. there seems to be a new one every day, but they don't freak me out like other spiders...perhaps due to their un-scary name. glad you're having a good time at the ranch :)
