Quote of the Week, Perhaps a Bit Longer

"The biological community is a vast and complicated system for sharing and distributing the energy of the sun among a diversity of life forms." ~Martson Bates

Penumbral Lunar Eclipse: 6:30 AM

A penumbral lunar eclipse on November 28, 2012, will be the last eclipse of the 2012.

A penumbral eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the Earth’s penumbra. The penumbra causes a subtle darkening of the Moon's surface.  A Penumbra is a region in which only a portion of the light source (sun) is obscured by the occluding body (the Earth).

It should be easily visible to the naked eye as a dusky shading in the northern half of the Moon. The times of the major phases are listed below.

Penumbral Eclipse Begins: 12:14:58 UT
Greatest Eclipse: 14:33:00 UT
Penumbral Eclipse Ends: 16:51:02 UT

For Reno that means:
Penumbral Eclipse Begins: 4:17 AM
Greatest Eclipse Begins: 6:30 AM-best visibility
Penumbral Exlipse Ends: 8:49 AM--however, moonset in Reno is 6:57 AM
