10-29-2008: Wishing For Wilderness

Yesterday was a rest day, our first one without major bike repairs. We camped along the Wet Beaver. It was so nice to hangout and not worry about how to fix a bike. I finished the "Garden of Peculiarities" the book that Dan translated from Spanish for his good friend Jesus Sepuveda. I liked it.

We are camped at Clear Creek Campground. It's an okay campground, but it costs $15.00. We wanted to camp outside the Wet Beaver Wilderness Area at the West Clear Creek Campground which was free, but it was a super steep downhill to get to the campground and we didn't want to have to ride back up in the morning. We did decide to walk down to see the wilderness area and the campground just to check it out. The wilderness area looked gorgeous, I really wish we would have had the time to go backpacking in there. The campgrounds, however, were trashed they were disgusting. Toilet paper all over, nasty plastic bottles and beer cans all over the place. It was very depressing. I can't believe people take such beautiful places for granted and assume that someone else will clean up their crap.
