I'm looking forward to getting out of Nevada for a bit, but I'm not looking forward to the 9 1/2 hour drive there and the 9 1/2 hour drive back. It seems as if I have spent a ton of time in the car lately, but I suppose it's to be expected when you live 1 1/2 hours from the nearest town and 5 hours from friends and family.
Oh... and the class will go until 5:00 pm on Sunday, so I highly doubt that I will have a post on Monday, but I will try.
There have been a handful of fun birds hanging around the pond lately. We have had several white-faced ibises (Plegadis chihi), a couple of eared grebes (Podiceps nigricolllis), a bufflehead breeding pair (Bucephala albeola), two very beautiful great egrets (Casmerodius albus) and a handful of Wilson's phalaropes (Phalaropus tricolor). There were also a number of tiny shorebirds that I couldn't get a good enough view of to identify, but I'm thinking they may have been some sorta sandpiper, hopefully I will see them again and get a better look at them.

Were the Wilson's phalaropes the ones who were spinning in the water? That was sweet. Opal Creek sounds cool but I'll miss you!
Yep, they're the spinners. It says in my book they do that to stir up larvae and insects for food. Cool isn't it!

I did the original WFR class (a 10 day class) a little over two years ago after Alaska and when I thought I might want to do some outdoor ed stuff. This was just a re-certification class to stay current. If I let it expire and want to get again in the future I would have to take the 10 day class again. So I'm just keeping it current. Also it is nice to have since Dan and I do so many outdoor activities and it is also useful since we are living so far from medical care.
